Our manifesto

Written in colour and with lots of love

Tramuntana en Color: We’re a group of people from the Serra de la Tramuntana region who’ve come together to celebrate diversity in all its forms. We seek to visibilize the wide variety of universes that coexist in our small world and, above all, to celebrate, in our case, the multiple ways of being, of loving and of desiring.

We see diversity as something that enriches us all, as something we all should be proud of, as something to be celebrated by all our neighbours.

Because by celebrating and remembering together our accomplishments and the long journey we have travelled together, we also remember that our struggle never ends. If we are to avoid returning to a darker past, we must defend diversity, today more than ever.

Because in recent years we have witnessed a trend whereby hate-based attitudes are becoming increasingly “normalized”. There is a danger that these views will find fertile ground and take root in popular and youth culture. There is a growing fear that intolerance, homophobia, sexism and racism will find acceptance in everyday discourse among people who did not previously identify with these values.

In the media and across social networks, an offensive campaign is being waged to win hearts and minds. Its aims are to make discriminatory ideas more widely accepted and, in turn, to win people over to extremist policies, that include  hatred towards ethnic and religious minorities, immigrants, women and the LGBTI+ community. Those who wage this battle against us also deny the seriousness of climate emergency, jeopardizing everyone’s future. Meanwhile, the number of hate crimes and acts of violence continues to rise.

We need to halt this dangerous drift. And together with all the progressive groups in our towns and neighbourhoods, we can do that.

Because there is an urgent need to work together in the long term to systematically combat the far-right,  extremism, xenophobia, Islamophobia and anti-semitism, sexism, homophobia, and all other forms of discrimination, as well as denial of climate change.

We must fight together in our towns and villages to stop hate speech from becoming normalized. We need to fight its lies, reject its discourse, stigmatize it and contain it so that these attitudes from a darker past never, ever return..

Against intolerance we must celebrate diversity. Against hatred and division we seek to foster social coexistence based on respect for diversity and and inclusive values.

Against the campaign to win “hearts and minds”, we must fight together. Because together, all minorities are stronger.

Against fake news, lies and propaganda, we will deploy awareness, education and historic memory. Historical revisionism and the denial of the terrible crimes committed is unacceptable. We must safeguard historical memory and create a living culture of remembrance. This means remembering not only the victims of the past, but also those who drown in the sea every day dreaming of a better life. It involves remembering victims of sexist violence and transphobia – and also the achievements of women. It involves remembering the persecution of homosexuals – but also their struggle for freedom.

Against marginalization: visibility. It means making visible the contribution of the LGBTI+ community, of women, of immigrants and other minorities to our society.

But hate-based attitudes cannot simply be banned or wished away. We need clear political statements and actions against extremist and xenophobic groups and far-right parties.

We need allies. We need the support of our neighbours. We invite you to join our festival, which aims to defeat hatred, fear, bigotry and the black and white world of extremists with a more open world of joy, hope and colour– lots of colour. A world of diversity symbolized by the rainbow flag.

The fight against discrimination is a crucial struggle, a struggle where we all stand to win. Freedom of expression, religion and sexuality are essential values. Such freedoms make each and every one of us unique and different. It is these differences that enrich society.  We must learn to live together, celebrating each other’s differences.

Let us celebrate love in all its colours together  –  let us celebrate Tramuntana with Pride. Everyone’s invited.

Together, let’s fill our valley, our streets and our squares with joy, diversity, celebration – and struggle for the rights of all.

There’s lots, lots more to be done, of course  – this is just the beginning. And our struggle is just one of many. We will be with you in your struggles as well. United, we look forward to writing the story of diversity and respect together.

We hope you’ll be joining us.
